Discussion On Leadership In Nursing Practice And My Personal Leadership Philosophy

It has the potential to be a leader. It’s a skill to handle all kinds of situations. It’s the ability to handle any situation. The person who is born to be a leader has a greater goal. It is they who make impossible things possible. Leadership is being able to help a group, an organization such as a church, a business, et cetera, or even your family. It is a duty to guide, inspire, and motivate their subordinates. It’s not only a responsibility for you, but also everyone who follows. This shows how to do it. It is important to lead by transforming everyone’s weakness into strength. Leaders can encourage and guide a member who needs guidance or assistance. The leader inspires and trains all members. Empathy is also a quality of a leader. Leaders who are approachable, but also respected. Leaders should be good listeners in all aspects. You need to know how to guide your members so they will work together and be productive. Twin explains that “Leadership entails setting goals, taking the necessary actions, and outperforming your competitors” (2019). The leader must have the ability to confidently and transparently lead others with good intentions. Not everyone is a natural leader. Leaders will be looked up to by the younger generation and imitated.

As a nurse, I always considered the chief nurses to be the leaders of the nursing departments. They were the ones who would give us advice and provide clarification. The chief nurse is the one we go to for advice if any of our fellow nurses have a concern. She was very attentive to my suggestions when we met in the conference rooms to discuss a particular event. After we arrived at a conclusion, she would then grant the solution. She encourages the entire team to work together and is always willing to help if there are any problems. The chief nursing inspires others to collaborate.

For me, leadership is simply the ability to manage a group, regardless of how difficult it may be to deal with them. Leaders don’t have one-sided views, they consult their team before deciding on a plan. Canadian Nurses Association states that leadership is a crucial part of the life of a nurse. It is essential to a professional environment where nurses are able to provide high-quality nursing care. The linkage of professional practice to the operational activity in the organization promotes greater collaboration among nursing teams and interdisciplinary teams and encourages greater decision-making.

Leadership can be formal or informal. Leadership can be formal or informal. A person can be formally designated as a leader in a group. The formal leader has to plan and organize resources, figure out logistics and encourage all crew members to complete their jobs according to their level of expertise. The informal leader is the casual leader who isn’t officially the head. However, he is looked up to as an inspiration and motivator by his fellow contributors (Anderson, 2018).

As a new nurse, I had a lot to learn. One time, I felt like quitting because I had trouble memorizing all of the medication. However, my chief nurse encouraged and believed in me. She motivates through her words of encouragement and by sharing with me the experiences she had as a nursing staff. A formal leader’s role is to be able to display their authority directly. It is the formal leader’s responsibility to act in a timely and professional manner. My experience has been that informal leaders are the best. I see seniority nurses as informal leaders. I have been a home-based private duty nurse for atleast 1 year. A nurse is caring for the patient since almost 5 year, so she’s had a lot of experience. Even though we’re the same age, she has much more experience. She shows me the proper way to lift a patient. She is more experienced than I am with that patient.

Canadian Nurses Association CNA (Canadian Nurses Association) is a professional organization that represents Canadian nurses on a national level and internationally. CNA’s leadership philosophy was influenced by the association’s commitment to following all rules and regulations in order to protect the patient. The holistic treatment of patients is the highest priority. Registered Nurse Association of Ontario has influenced my leadership philosophy. They promote and maintain a health environment for patients and their families. It provides strategies for better team success and helps maintain the nurse-patient relationship. Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario is a group of RNs and RPNs who are competent and apprehensive to provide quality patient care. Assuring patient safety and confidentiality. College of Nurses of Ontario has influenced my life by making me take responsibility and to follow the policies of nurses. It allows me to maintain my patient’s barrier. For all nurses working in Canada, it is a requirement to adhere to this practice. This is the competency of a nurse to perform their job. It is possible to find out if a nurse is qualified for the job.

I am a nurse and should adhere to the rules of the profession in order to fulfill my duties. As I continue to take care of my patient, I can serve my institution and what it has taught me. As a team member, I also need to help my colleagues plan a goal for our patient’s healthcare. To help the patient, it is important to work together. Our patient’s holistic needs are our priority. Maintain and provide cleanliness to the environment. Nurses do not have it easy. But they are heros. We can make a difference. I am an nurse. I am a proud nurse.
